A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the police about his suspicions.
She said the man went on to conduct the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police a second time.
She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five children.
